No outboard motor came with my 1958 Lyman Outboard; however, sitting in my garage is a nice little 1958 Johnson Seahorse 35, which came with my 1958 Glastron 16′ Fireflite barn find. This motor will not only be exactly age-appropriate, but also very nice looking, the right color combination for this boat, and appropriately powered for a 15′ lapstrake. Mark Gunter from Gunter Marine referred me to James Stevenson from GTR Marine Service, an outboard mechanic in Kennedale who works on these old Johnsons. In the meantime, I have given James a call and he has agreed to work on the Johnson. Even in its current condition, the motor turns over nicely, so I’m hoping it won’t take too much effort to get it running.
