Yesterday morning Sweeney Hardwoods delivered a load of beautiful African Mahogany to my house. They are all 12′ lengths and 6″ to 9″ wide. I bought 6/4 rough-sawn wood, which means it was 1-1/2″ thick to begin with. I had them resaw the planks in half, plane them down to a 1/2″ thickness, and then put a straight edge down one side. In total I ended up with 110 board feet of lumber for a grand total of about $750.00 out the door and it was all delivered for free. The driver and I stacked it on the end of the driveway, and then when Patrice got home she helped me move it to the garage where it is now resting safely on the floor beneath the Lyman.
Sweeney Hardwoods is located at 3609 Conway Street, Fort Worth, TX 76111, (817) 838-3095. My salesman, Owen Morris, was very helpful is working out the details of my purchase, including giving me a little education.
Part of this wood will become the new hull sides for my 1948 Speed Liner. I may also use some of it to replace the decks, if I decide I need to do that. Some of it will be used to replace a few planks on my 1948 Chris-Craft Deluxe Runabout, and the rest will make for a good start on my 1959 Chris-Craft Ski Utility, which presently has no wood on it at all, except for the frames.
This mahogany is beautiful wood. I’m happy to have it. And it’s good to know of a local hardwood dealer that offers next-day delivery.
